Just Another Brick In The Wall

In my opinion this video by Pink Floyd is one of the most influential songs and videos of all time in the field of education. This video is a criticism of the mundane and robotic education system.

The education system  is displayed as an assembly line in this video, where the children are physically falling from the end of the assembly line. The children are also depicted as faceless, this symbolizing their inability to be individuals and be their own person within this school system. There is essentially no advancement and the children are doomed.

Education is depicted as oppressive, brainwashing, and thought controlling. The teacher says "repeat after me" as the students go on to repeat word for word, over and over, the things in which they "should" be learning. The boy who tries to be creative and write a poem gets criticized and put down. Knowledge is physically beaten into the students in this video to represent that lack of control students have in what they are learning and who they are to become.

This video shows how children are not often influenced to think for themselves and instead are taught to be the same in a factory line style oppressive education system. This is a revolutionary video that brings to light many important aspects that need to be addressed regarding the paradigms of education and at the time of release was incredibly controversial.

  1. This song I too wrote about, this song as said above brain washes and eliminates the ability for one to be creative. education is a fundamental building block to success. however many of the richest people in the world have dropped out of high school and have made it. School gives you the basics to learning what field of study you want. But what it doesn't do is inspire or challenge the way which things are done. I have been at Saint Mary's university for 4 years and I have learned lots. But once I leave this university will I too be brainwashed. by brainwashed I mean will my opinions of anything and everything change because someone else told me.
